The gym is rather huge and have 2 level, with basketball court, pool, sauna and steam room. I went there since my friend have benefit of letting me in for free.

I've made some good gains on my flat bench in recent months, up until i injured something in my left shoulder, on or after a day where i was pushing my PR to about 200lbs, just 1 set at 5reps. It doesn't hurt when resting, but it hurts a lot when benching, even just doing push ups, not OHP though.

After the injury i struggled to even just maintain the weight over about 1 month, even now it isn't completely healed. It's invisible though, i have no idea what was actually damaged in there. Now that it is more or less healed, im scared to increase the weight once again because i don't know what really caused it in the first place. What do you do about this? What to look for when trying to make sure that the current weight is "safe" so it can be increased without risk? Is it a lack of warming up or stretching?


Narrow your grip. You will hurt your shoulder if you're benching with your upper arm at a right angle to your torso. Get it below 70, or preferably around 45. This shifts the burden of the weight to your upper pecs and triceps somewhat but it is necessary to avoid shoulder impingement.

Yeah, that. If you're already at a safe angle, just give the injury time to rest. Also be sure that you're keeping your upper back tight when you lift. It's really easy to forget when you've got almost 2pl8 over your neck.

I've been lifting for a few months and I've got noticeable gains, but some of my gains are only noticeable from certain directions.

For example, my upper arms look a lot bigger from the side, but from head-on they look no different from when I started lifting. My forearms are the same. They look noticeably different from the side, but from head-on they're tiny.

Am I doing something wrong, or is it genetic, or will it get better after I've lifted longer?

It's because you aren't exercising all the muscles of the forearm. [1] You can't do only the big compound lifts and expect complete forearm development. You'll get a strong grip and some wrist flexor development from the popular lifts, but if you aren't already doing a varied forearm routine or doing something creative or esoteric, you should probably do reverse curls, preferably with a curl bar, at a minimum. [2] If you want to be Popeye or go beyond the bare minimum, you probably need to do around 2-4 additional types of forearm exercises or more to round everything out. [3] Forearms aren't free.

I suspect the reasons that there isn't much discussion about this sort of thing are that in depth forearm training is barely useful to most athletes and a lot of body builders buy into the idea that it subtracts from their visual appeal by making the upper arms look smaller by comparison.

How? I'd think having popeye arms would look great in and of itself.

Also, how big are "average" forearms in terms of circumference? Mine are 12" cold and unflexed (I measured on an off day, so they weren't pumped).

I'm not saying I agree with extremely minimal forearm training aesthetically, but bodybuilders are concerned with proportions, illusions of good proportions, and judging criteria. Some want to create a visual illusion of bigger upper arms by avoiding overly developed forearms. If I recall correctly, I believe it was around the 1950s that they would go out of their way to avoid glute development because of the specifics of judging criteria in competitions. Obviously having anything out of proportion looks weird in everyday life, but bodybuilders have less real life concerns than average joes and athletes will subscribe only to the most useful exercises.

I've tried some weed this past Friday. Not my first time but I didn't feel very much those times.

This time I did get a high so I'm weighing in as an observing outsider.

There were definitely mind altering effects. Much I can't explain. I started out numb, then felt floaty and was more talkative. But at the end of the day it's simply a mild ish mental alteration drug for recreation similar in usage to alcohol and even cigarettes.

It's hyped out of proportion simply because it's illegal and will do things to your brain easily. There's benefits to each I'm sure. A glass of wine is good for you. Even nicotine in itself is a mental performance enhancer. Weed has pain killing effects. But they all provide their thrills or temporary escapes. So certain people will form dependency on their chemical of choice no matter what it is.

Would I get high again? Rarely if ever. I meditate casually for heightened awareness and weed didn't provide me a better experience. Lifting also provides relaxation which I don't need weed much for that either



What are we even talking about in this thread? Of course you're going to have some vivid daydreams with cannabis if your tolerance is nonexistent and you smoke some serious powerful strains. Cannabis overstimulates neurotransmitters and disrupts communications just like proper hallucinogens do.

Around the time I turned 20 I had stopped smoking cannabis for two years and then ended up going to a party with cannabis, acid, and shrooms in abundance.

Ten minutes later I was imagining cars driving on the street below being UFOs, hallucinating people saying shit they didn't actually say due to my paranoid state of mind, and then proceeded to have an out of body hallucination of falling into a vent while my body stayed in the same place.

Yeah, no shit it happens. If that's what you want, go smoke some DMT and you can "DUDE HALLUCINATIONS LMAO" all you want about the little keebler elves that you saw.

The answer to the OP is no. Micro dosing hallucinogens has been proven to help, though.

I've tried working out while drunk, and I don't really remember it. Apparently Philippine special forces do a similar hell week thing to America's Navy Seal's, but they do the whole thing while drunk.

But I'm personally curious how tripping or high would would effect my workouts.

I just eat it daily, doesn't mean i eat nothing else. Over the rest of the idea i usually eat a ton of lowfat quark with some fruits or muesli in it, peanuts every now and then and so on
